Do water filters need changing and when should I replace my water filter?
Water Filters should be changed when they can no longer do their job. The frequency of when your Water Filter needs to be replaced depends on the usage and the quality of water being treated.
At a minimum, it is recommended that Water Filters are replaced every 12 months. However, if water quality is poor, or if the Water Filters have treated large volumes of water, Water Filters may need replacing each 3 – 6 months.
Here are our guidelines on when your Water Filters may need changing.
Water Being Treated | Number of Occupants | Change Filter Every |
---|---|---|
Town Water (Chlorinated) | 0 – 3 | 12 Months |
Town Water (Chlorinated) | 4+ | 6 Months |
Tank Water / Rainwater | 0 – 3 | 6 Months |
Tank Water / Rainwater | 4+ | 3 Months |
Bore Water | 0 – 3 | 6 Months |
Bore Water | 4+ | 3 Months |
Please note that each Water Filtration installation is different. Water quality is ever changing – no water source is the same. The Water Filter Cartridge replacement frequencies are guidelines only. Once a Water Filtration System has been installed, you will be able to establish when your Water Filters will need to be replaced by observing the following characteristics:
Water Being Treated | Characteristic | Cause |
---|---|---|
Town Water (Chlorinated) | Chlorine taste is back. | Adsorption capacity of activated carbon reached. |
Town Water (Chlorinated) | Loss in pressure at the tap or shower | Sediment removal capacity of filter reached. |
Tank Water / Rainwater / Bore Water | Change in colour, taste and odour | Adsorption capacity of activated carbon reached. |
Tank Water / Rainwater / Bore Water | Sediment in treated water | Sediment filter has failed |
Tank Water / Rainwater / Bore Water | Loss in pressure at the tap or shower | Sediment removal capacity of filter reached. |
Even if the Water Filter Cartridge characteristics are not observed during a 12 month period, the Water Filter must be changed. As Water Filters age, they begin to get contaminated with bacteria. An old Water Filter may be a breeding ground for harmful bacteria!
